Goldilocks cakes! – My favorite childhood dessert
In my younger days, I used to have lunch at Goldilocks Cubao branch. I looked forward to having a slice of their rainbow cake with my meal or a bag of their caramel flavored popcorn.
Goldilocks has really come a long way from their humble beginnings since 1966. From a simple Filipino bakery offering birthday cakes to favorite Filipino snacks and meals to more breads and pastries.
This year, 2016 marks their 50th year in the business with over 400 branches locally and abroad.
New! they now sell Filipino dishes and sauces.
Curious on their meals, took a quick bite at Goldilocks Fishermall before heading over to the supermarket to do some grocery shopping.
Sarapinoy meals we tried
KareKare 135 PHP
a Philippine stew complimented with a thick savory peanut sauce. It is made from a base of stewed oxtail, pork hocks, calves feet, pig feet, beef stew meat, and occasionally offal or tripe. (wikipedia)
It has all the popular ingredients used. Looks delicious however I did not like the peanut sauce since they used peanut butter spread instead of using real peanuts. Can’t complain the quality for the affordable price. If you want a better KareKare, an alternative would be Max’s Restaurant – another homegrown fast casual food chain.
1 piece fried chicken with rice
comes with sago gulaman drink for 89 PHP
Their fried chicken takes 10-20 mins. to prepare upon ordering if the crowd is slow. The chicken breading and skin texture is really crunchy and taste delicious. If I were to compare the texture and the taste of the chicken breading with the other fastfood chains that serve fried chicken I would rank them in this order
- Goldilocks
- Kipp’s Chicken
- KFC
- Tom Sawyer
- Jollibee
- Mc Donald’s
- Wendy’s
While the taste and texture of the chicken skin is really good, I find the meat taste really bland.
Meat taste ranking
- Kipp’s Chicken
- Tom Sawyer
- KFC
- Jollibee
- Mc Donald’s
The gravy serving size is really generous. The taste is milky similar to cream of mushroom soup mixed with chicken oil and small part instant gravy mix. The good thing is that it is quite tasty and does not have the chemical taste found in other popular fast food chains.
Gravy taste ranking
- Kipp’s Chicken
- Goldilocks
- KFC
- Jollibee McDonalds Wendys
Spaghetti
with your choice of soft drink 75 PHP
The spaghetti is really meaty and the sauce is tasty. The noodles weren’t soggy and still firm. I had a hard time deciding which one was better compared to a close competitor because both are good. The serving size is large and probably equivalent to 2 servings compared to the single serve size of other top fast food chains. The only thing I did not like was the hot dog slices. But hey it can’t be helped because hot dog is a popular Filipino spaghetti ingredient.
Spaghetti taste ranking
- Goldilocks
- Kipp’s Chicken (a close second)
- KFC
- Mc Donald’s
- Jollibee
Here is the sago gulaman drink that comes with the meals and the soft dink. I like their cup designs.
Overall Goldilocks bakeshop is a good place to grab a quick bite for your Filipino food and snack favorites and for your sweet tooth.
