After running some errands within the Quezon City Circle area, we decided to check out Maginhawa street, a popular place to dine in one of the top 10 restaurants in Quezon City. We stumbled upon a lovely country side place “Provenciano” Just like one of the places you’d find in Tagaytay like Balay Indang.
Inside is a lovely dining area decorated with classic art pieces like the vintage capiz panels, wood carvings, and a small nipa hut where they prepare “Bibingka” a filipino cake. I like that the area doesn’t look too old and dark. It still feels like a modern and cozy place to gather with friends and family.
The food is surprisingly delicious. I expected it to be an overrated place with beautiful decors but average food. Here are some of the dishes we tried.
Kalderetang Kalding – Goat meat stewed in fresh tomatoes and soy, mildly spicy
I took this photo after we had a serving for we were hungry so the presentation was a bit ruined. I normally am not fond of red meat with tomato sauce like how most kalderetas are served. But this dish is very good and tasty. The meat is surprisingly very tender and not dry.
Sinaing na Tulingan – Slow cooked salted mackarel with mango wrapped in banana leaves and simmered in dried kamias
The taste is almost similar to mackarel sashimi, only this one is cooked just right as to not ruin the taste and texture.
Pinakbet – tasty vegetable dish
I like that the vegetables are not overcooked and the texture is still firm. You can still tell the taste of each vegetable and not covered up by the seasoning.
The condiments bar
Enhance the taste of your dish further by choosing from different types of vinegar, fish sauces and different spices.
Here’s a sample of their menu
I’m impressed with the overall experience. The interiors are bright, modern with a Filipino home theme. The food and service is excellent. A good place to treat your foreign friends with fine Filipino food or have intimate gatherings with 30 guests.
