Always saw this fried chicken place at Tiendesitas but haven’t tried it yet until I passed by one Sunday and got curious how it compares to the other popular fast food chains serving fried chicken like KFC, Mc Donald’s, Jollibee, Kipp’s Chicken and Wendy’s.
Found out that they first opened during the 70’s or 80’s and relaunched during 2014. Figures why I haven’t heard of them yet.
Here’s a sample of their menu (photo from Zomato)
Their fried chicken and spaghetti is popular among the customers when I visited so I decided to give their extra crispy chicken a try.
Here’s their 2 piece extra crispy chicken meal
Chicken Skin Taste
The chicken skin is a mix of Jollibee’s taste with McDonald’s texture. the taste is like chicharon manok.

Gravy
While top fast food chains use commercial pre-made mixes that mostly taste like chemicals and medicine, Tom Sawyer’s gravy seems to be half commercial mix added with other ingredients (guessing it could be cream?) It is lighter in color compared to other gravys. The good thing is that the chemical taste is not as strong as the other fast food chains
Gravy Ranking
- Kipp’s Chicken
- KFC
- Tom Sawyer
- Jollibee McDonald’s Wendy’s have almost similar chemical gravy taste
